Our Vision

As a brand, we embrace the philosophy and cultural history behind Sumi-e art which centers around harmony through contrast. This approach involves the use of two colors, black and white, to create art that is both simple and elegant. This art form has a rich history, originating in China and brought to Japan by Zen Buddhist monks.

Its core philosophy draws from the Taoist belief of Yin and Yang, representing the balance and harmony of opposing forces. By honoring this tradition, we have decided to use only two color options, white and black, showcasing the beauty of simplicity and contrast in our designs.

My Story

Hey, I’m Jason—a creator with a passion for bringing people together through streetwear. Sumi Beast was inspired by the minimalistic beauty of Japanese sumi-e art and my personal drive to make a meaningful difference in the world after giving my life to Christ.

Sumi Beast is more than just clothing. From day one, I wanted it to stand for something deeper—a brand with heart. That’s why 10% of every purchase goes to charity, and our community decides where it goes through monthly Instagram polls. Giving back isn’t an afterthought; it’s deeply woven into everything we do as an expression of my faith and devotion to God and Christ.

Sumi Beast isn’t about chasing trends or hype—it’s about creating something lasting: a connection, a movement, and a small way to make the world just a little bit brighter.

Welcome to the Sumi Family. We’re blessed to have you here

- With gratitude, Jason

Meet The Artist

Hi there! I'm Jenna Richards, a semi-surrealist artist based in Colorado. I've been creating art for as long as I can remember, and my passion has only deepened over the years.

I recently earned a BFA with an emphasis in painting, which has further honed my craft and vision. My work has always been subtly influenced by Japanese aesthetics, particularly the art of translating complex themes into simple, yet profound symbolism.

Early on, as I began exhibiting my pieces, I became fascinated by how viewers would find personal meaning in my art. This led me to shift my approach, embracing a more subtextual style. While each brushstroke carries significance for me, I no longer seek to control how my audience interprets my work. Instead, I hope that you connect with my designs in a way that resonates with you personally!

Through my collaboration with Jason on this brand, we've explored a unique fusion of Sumi-e traditions and modern aesthetics. I hope you find as much joy in these designs as I do, and that we can offer a space for meaningful connection in your own life.

- Warmly, Jenna
